January 8:

  • First day of classes:  half-time/shared meeting with ENGL 524.  Getting to know everyone, going over syllabi, etc.
  • Introduce 50+ways to tell a story “about me” assignment.

January 15:

January 20-January 24, Online Week:

Beginning Monday and finishing Wednesday, do the following:

Beginning Wednesday and finishing Friday, do the following:

  • Read and discuss chapters 2 and 3 of Halbritter (Skim chapter 2).
  • Read and discuss Lev Manovich “What is New Media?”
  • Read and discuss Claire Lauer “Contending with Terms: ‘Multimodal’ and “Multimedia” in the Academic and Public Spheres.”
  • Read and discuss KDMC tutorial on Audacity.

January 29:

  • Diving in further with Audacity and with and in class work/peer sharing of your short audio/podcast assignment.
  • Begin discussion of the “how to” video assignment. Screen in-class examples.
  • Begin working with WeVideo and WeVideo Academy (e.g., tutorials).

February 3-February 7, Online Week:

March 5:

  • The “how to” video assignment due by class today! Screening/peer critiques of videos.
  • Discuss Interview assignments– questions, arranging interviewees, groups, etc.
  • In-class practice interviews.
  • Discuss/tutorial/practice with EMU  equipment for interviews.
  • Continue discussing sharing and annotating interviews for emuonline.
  • In-class work on developing PSA projects and groups.
  • Discuss/review collaborating with Google docs.

March 10-March 14, Online Week:

March 17-March 21, Online/CCCC Week:

Beginning Wednesday: CCCCs.  Because I’ll be at the conference (and some of you will be too!), this second half of the week will be devoted to exclusively working on PSAs (analysis, storyboard, and script are due next week) and the Interview project.

March 26

  • The PSA analysis, storyboard, and script are due by class time today! 
  • Assuming your project is approved by me, use class time to begin putting it together.
  • Continue to arrange and video interviews.

March 31-April 4, Online Week:

Beginning Monday and finishing Wednesday, do the following:

  • Read and discuss chapter 6 of Halbritter.
  • Finish up your PSAs and your video interviews– they are due next week!

April 9:

  • The PSA Assignment is due by class today! Screenings/discussion of each group’s project.
  • In class work on the individual part of the video interview project.

April 14-April 17: Online Week

Beginning Monday and finishing Wednesday:

  • Final individual work/finishing touches to the interview assignment.  I will be available to help people on this part of things if necessary.

Beginning Wednesday and finishing Thursday:

  • The Interview Project is due by Wednesday!  By the end of the day today, you need to have all deliverables for this assignment posted and ready for review.
  • Online screenings and discussion on individual interview projects.
  • Discussion of revision of the first three projects.

April 23: Finals Week Showcase

  • A revision of one of the first three assignments due by class today!
  • During this scheduled time of our final, we will have a TBA “showcase” experience for the work we completed this term. All revisions and remaining work for the class are due at this point.
