Using Audacity (though see below), create a 5 minute or so audio/podcast that is either in the theme of a “This I Believe” audio essay or in the theme of a “Story Corps” interview. Your audio/podcast must include some creative commons licensed “mood music” to accompany it. The deliverables here are the audio online someplace (see below) where you’ll share a link and a memo about the project.
Some more details:
- The subject of your short audio is really up to you, though I think both the “This I Believe” essays and the “Story Corps” projects are potentially good ideas. You could do record an essay (pretty straight-forward), or you could conduct an interview, or you could do something a little different. If you’ve got questions, ask! Keep them short– somewhere between 3:30 and 5 minutes.
- You don’t have to use Audacity– you could use something like GarageBand, for example– but keep two things in mind. First, Audacity is what I’ll “support” and kinda/sorta show you how to use. If you use something else, you’re more or less on your own. Second, you need to be able to do some editing here, so if you use something too simple, you might not be able to accomplish the assignment.
- For the music, you have to either make something or use Creative Commons “share and share alike” content. We’ll talk more about this as the term goes on, but here’s a link to a site where you can search for sounds and music like this. You’ll also want to credit your music someplace too.
- As for how to share this: we’ll talk about this in class, but the two places I’d suggest are either Soundcloud or (believe it or not!) YouTube. The idea though is to post this someplace where everyone can access it and listen to it.
